Most kids spend hours (if not days) dreaming up the perfect words to say. But when it finally comes time to sit down and pen that letter, children sometimes feel overwhelmed by the enormity of the big task...

3 Steps to Writing the Perfect Letter

Step 1: Get Your Materials Ready

First, you must gather all necessary materials. Santa can check his email, but he much prefers receiving letters in the North Pole mailbox. Afterall, he gets lots of messages from kids all over the world and doesn’t always have time to use his computer.

So, to get ready here is what you’ll need:

• Lined paper
• Pencil
• Eraser (for any mistakes – oops)
• Envelope
• Crayons, markers, stickers, etc. for decorating

Step 2: Think About What You Want to Say

Writing a letter to Santa isn’t hard, but there are a few points you should follow.

1. First, brainstorm what you want Santa to know. Do you have a list of presents you are hoping he might bring on Christmas eve? If yes, get it now. Or maybe you would like something that isn’t a toy. For example, to have happy Christmas with your family. That’s a great idea too!

2. Second, we want to remember to be polite. Always start a letter with, “Dear Santa.”

3. Third, introduce yourself. Write something like, “My name is ______. I live in ______ and am ______ years old.”

4. Fourth, tell Santa about how good you have been all year long. Did you help mom or dad with chores? Take care of a little brother or sister? Play with new friends at school? Chances are, Santa already knows. But it’s still a good idea to remind him. Santa Claus visits Santa’Ville all the time, and we know he loves hearing about the nice things you do.

5. Ask Santa to deliver a few gifts. Keep in mind, his workshop can be extraordinarily busy in December…there are millions and millions of other children in the world also celebrating Christmas! Choose your favorite 1-3 presents and add them to the list.

Don’t forget to say, “Please” and “Thank you.”

Step 3: Mail to the North Pole

You are almost done!

Great work. The last thing to do is send your letter to the North Pole. To do this, we need an adult’s help.

On the back on the envelope in the middle, write SANTA in big letters. You can use any color, but he really likes red and green. Underneath write NORTH POLE. This is how the delivery people know where to send the letter.

Your parents will take the envelope and put it in the mailbox for you.

Within a couple of days, Santa’s team of elves and reindeer will empty the North Pole bag of letters and bring them all to Santa Claus to read before Christmas eve.
